About Norton Pottery

The very first pottery I learned to make, over 40 years ago, was high temperature Stoneware. Back then I appreciated the strength the durability, and the earthy qualities of this kind of clay and glazes.

After all this time I still appreciate those same qualities and prefer working with this material. Almost all my work is thrown on the potter’s wheel with some alterations that hint at the clay’s softness when it is wet and on the wheel. There is a lot of thought that goes into each piece with special attention paid to each part of the pot, the foot, the rim, the handle and the motion and curve of the walls that contain the space within. Each piece is special to me as I hope it will be for those who have my work.
